Frequently Asked Questions
Questions schools ask before getting started
Attendance Point is designed to fit into the systems schools already use, but new approaches naturally create questions. Start with the answers below, then contact us if your district has a policy, technical, or implementation question unique to you.
No. Teachers continue recording attendance through the school's existing process. Attendance Point uses the attendance data schools already collect to create student-facing visibility, engagement, and reinforcement without asking teachers to maintain a second attendance process or manage a separate incentive system.
Does Attendance Point replace our normal attendance process?
Attendance Point connects directly with school student information systems, including PowerSchool and Infinite Campus, to securely bring roster, class, and attendance data into the platform. We also integrate with single sign-on solutions, including Clever and ClassLink, so students and educators can access Attendance Point through familiar school-managed accounts. Our team works directly with district data and technology staff to configure and validate these connections before launch.
How does Attendance Point connect to attendance data?
Very little. Teachers continue their normal attendance-taking procedures. At launch, they help introduce Attendance Point to students and reinforce participation while students become familiar with the experience. From there, Attendance Point handles the ongoing student-facing engagement, point distribution, and reward infrastructure, while teachers can use the platform for visibility and positive reinforcement without adding another attendance-entry or incentive-management workflow.
What do teachers have to do?
Why can't students create their own accounts?
Student access is tied to school-managed data and verified rosters. Controlled account creation helps ensure students are connected to the correct school, classes, and attendance records rather than creating unverified accounts.
Why does Attendance Point use points, streaks, activities, competitions, and rewards?
No single feature will help every student notice, understand, and strengthen the same habit. Together, these experiences create repeated reasons to see attendance, talk about it, compare progress, return to the platform, and connect everyday choices with longer-term patterns. The goal is not any one feature. The goal is student ownership of attendance.
Why are activities intentionally short?
The goal is repeated engagement, not more schoolwork or unnecessary screen time. Short experiences give students a reason to return frequently without creating a burden for students or teachers, while keeping attendance and other useful skills visible.
Can a school start small?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. Schools and districts can start with a school, grade, or student group, let educators and students experience the platform, evaluate implementation, engagement, and attendance movement, and expand from there. The goal is to build confidence through implementation and results before asking a district to make a larger commitment.
How does Attendance Point fit with MTSS?
Attendance Point strengthens the attendance work schools already have in place. It adds a proactive, student-facing layer that can support Tier 1 culture and prevention while complementing targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports when students need more help. As attendance becomes more visible and students begin talking about progress with one another, reinforcement no longer depends solely on adult intervention.
Does Attendance Point solve every reason a student misses school?
No. Transportation, health, housing, family responsibilities, and other barriers often require supports beyond any software platform. Attendance Point focuses on the behavioral and engagement layer schools can reinforce consistently: helping students see attendance, understand patterns, engage with progress, and increasingly take ownership.
How do rewards work?
Students earn points for attendance and through other experiences designed to reinforce it, then choose from digital rewards across more than 1,000 nationwide brands they know and love.
Every participating student can earn based on the attendance and engagement they put in, while choice lets students select something meaningful to them. Rewards are redeemed outside of school, so educators do not have to source, store, distribute, or manage a traditional prize closet. Rewards remain one part of a larger system built around visibility, engagement, social reinforcement, and habit formation.
Points can be earned through the final school day and must be redeemed by July 1; unused points then expire so the program can reset for the next school year. Points do not currently roll over between school years.
